IKEA, Pigs, and other stories…………

By redpanda On October 31st, 2009

Ok so lets go back to Wednesday…………nice day so we go out to Burley and decide to do two different runs……………now I am still not very good at hills and really struggled with some of the ones on the first course but absolutely loved the tracks we went down……………and it was going down one of these tracks that we heard this grunting noise…….looked over to see two pink and black pigs eating something in the grass…………it was one of those wish I had a camera moments cos they looked up and then just carried on…………….the good news was that I did not fall off and no puncture either…………….

Thursday……………….I hate the day before pay day…………no money…………….so him indoors decides that we are going to Southampton as he has to work there for the day…………so we get dropped off before the shops open…………..spend two hours wandering round West Quay…………..going in nearly every shop and the Italian market they had there only managing to spend a small amount…………..in John Lewis and M & S………….oh and Waterstones………….my biggest spend was at IKEA…………..I tell you if I was buying a house and starting from scratch I would furnish the place from there………………I love the shop……………the way they show the rooms laid out at the top to give you ideas and the bigger furniture up there too……………..then down to the market hall where all the kitchen stuff and soft furnishings are with loads of other stuff like storage and gifts and things…………..and right down the bottom the take away today stuff and food hall……………now I like the food hall as it does have some unusual things……………trouble is when you are not sure when you are being picked up it makes it difficult to get fresh or frozen things which did look nice………………Had lunch at Harry Ramsdens in West Quay as it had the shortest queue…………..finally got home at about 6 ish……………with a huge bag of shopping……………..and two kids who were knackered but well behaved all day…………even if we did get a lot of I wants…………put it on your Christmas list……………….

Friday……………Eye test and hair cut…………..again out early and got to the hairdressers before they opened……………then went to Poole and had the eye test and was told there is a minimal change to my vision but I could have new glasses if I needed to…………..have decided not to go with that at all……………did a few bits of Christmas shopping and also got Wii Fit Plus as I have the original Wii Fit and could do with some more inspiration to get going on it again……..also got Tim a book on Mountain Bike routes in the UK……………..it meant that I did not get home as early as planned……..did the food shop as usual …………….could have bought some bits to put away and then forgot about it……………

And so on to today………………went cycling……………fell off again…………twice………..once into a holly bush and once into a deep puddle……………….felt very wet and very deflated for the rest of the day………..and then cleaned the bikes off when we got back………..looks nice and sparkly now………….then went to Tesco for the bits we could not get yesterday…………hmmmmmmmm and two tops for me and two for Tim and one for Ryan……………and Kristie’s present……………

Anyway…………..I am now completely knackered and need another week off to recover…………………..zzzzzzzzzzz

Its starting to look good

By redpanda On October 27th, 2009

All this cycling is paying off I think………..been out Saturday, walked with Ryan while he cycled on Sunday, went out again yesterday and today and going again tomorrow……………The down side of today was ending up with a flat front tyre and not being able to cycle back and we would be as far away from the car as you can get at the time it was discovered. So Tim cycled back to the car and drove it round to the car park at the other end of the track whilst Ryan and I walked back…………well Ryan cycled and then went cycling round the virtually empty car park…………and for once I did not fall off………… well I nearly did yesterday but managed to keep control of it quite nicely…………stopped off at the bike shop on the way back and got replacement inner tubes for my bike and changed them over so we can go out tomorrow somewhere different………..not sure where we are going yet though but it will be somewhere out in the New Forest…………

The other good thing with this is its helping me with my weight loss………….lost 4lb this week…………(thanks for all the Facebook comments they made me laugh) and looking towards losing more this week as there is nothing to get in the way…………been trying out some recipes again………….New York Burgers tonight and doing Sweet and Sour Chicken Slimming World Style tomorrow night………….I just hope it works…………..I also tried my first desert which is a low syn value one which is a variation on Eton Mess……………just keep me away from the meringues……..I love them…………..

Not been out with the camera much lately…………….not had time to with all this exercise……………not been kiting either but that has been because either the wind has been wrong or its been chucking it down………..its now the end of the Speedway season and the only other thing I get wrapped up in is music………….bought the Paloma Faith CD which I still need to listen to in full but again have not had the time……………..there are two or three I am going to ask for for Christmas……………..

More ponderings in the week

Just don’t mention Tree Roots

By redpanda On October 24th, 2009

Ok…………after a rather wet morning spent going to the bank and doing some shopping, it dried up enough this afternoon to go out on the bike again…………back up to Hurn Forest and on some of the back tracks again……….now on some of the tracks we have found there are lots of tree roots………………and those of you who read this on a regular basis (and my facebook page) will know that I have a bit of a habit of falling off………….usually in a spectacular style. Well today was no different but this time I caught the edge of a tree root on a slippery path and went flying off the side into a pile of wet leaves…………cue a slightly dented pride and a lot of pain in a rather awkward place not to mention looking muddy and soggy…………..luckily its been quite warm so I dried out quickly………….but I still hurt………..last weeks bruises are now fading………..hope that I don’t get too many more as I am off this week and hoping to get out a bit either cycling or flying…………….

On holiday this week which should be good…………planning loads of  lie ins and going out and about as well as trying to organise a hair cut and an eye test which I get free through work………not sure if I get a concession on the glasses at all as I have a pre-existing condition………..for those who do not know me that well I can only see out of one eye…………I have always had the condition and do not see it as a disability…………I cannot wear contact lenses so have to wear glasses…………….my hair is also way too long right now and I am fed up with having to put it up all the time…

My daughter turned 19 on Friday………….scary thought that you know………….seems like only yesterday we brought her home sometimes…………..what is even more scary is that Ryan is 10 next year……………think I am getting old………………

More waffle in the week…………

Hang the flags out……….

By redpanda On October 20th, 2009

I now have a cooker that works and not only that it is undamaged…………finally got sorted out today without much fuss……..its nice, easy to clean and very user friendly…………..its touch controlled which is a novelty and setting the clock is fun but its good to have something that works fully after being down to a small top oven for near on 6 months……………

Also went out cycling again at the weekend and yet again I fell off…..nothing new there then but we were out in the New Forest near Bolderwood ornamental drive and I went to see what Tim was looking at and promptly fell off landing with my legs in the air……more bumps and bruises and a dented ego later I got up and carried on………….but struggled with the hills a bit. We went out again on Sunday to Hurn Forest again. This time Tim and Kristie went off and then Ryan and I went off somewhere where we could practice in peace………….this time I did not fall off but Ryan did rather spectacularly almost ending up in a great big pile of mud………….he did laugh though at his silliness………..I did avoid the big hill out there this time as somehow it scared me…………

We plan to go out a few times weather permitting over half term as I am off all week and Tim is off the early part of the week………I want to do a different forest route this time though………….other plans are to get my hair cut………..sort out my eye test and going to Southampton to look round Ikea and West Quay for ideas for Christmas presents………..I love looking for ideas and hopefully will get loads as I am always at a loss on what to buy people…….

Off for a bath and an early night after playing a bit of Wii Sports Resort………………

Well………….

another day and another update…………

Not that there is a lot to tell at the moment………….was sent home from work ill yesterday…………I think that to say I was bent over in pain is putting it mildly……..still the medication is definitely working even though it does make me tired……..I am so looking forward to having half term week off and being able to stay in bed as long as I like, along with getting my hair cut, having an eye test, going cycling again a few times and so on.

On the subject of cycling, whilst looking for insurance earlier I found a couple of really good cycling websites. On is called British Cycling which covers the competitive side as well as the fun side of the activity and one called British Trails which is aimed at Mountain bikers and has loads of info about all sorts of things from events to clothing to mountain bike trails all over the UK. I like the idea of going off exploring off road and on properly laid out trails………….as long as there are no steep hills that I can fall off on I’ll be ok.

Work is still going well and I am happy doing what I am doing. I have become interested in joining the health and environment group and trying to get our department more eco friendly. We don’t recycle much so I hope to get on the group so that we can change things. One step at a time though and take it carefully………….

I’m off to bed in a minute. This medication makes me tired…………………zzzzzzzzzzzzz

A steep hill and a Mountain Bike

By redpanda On October 11th, 2009

It sort of makes you wonder where it could all go wrong but inevitably it did…………now bear in mind it is about 25 years since I rode a push bike let alone a mountain bike and I was forever falling off then.  So we go out in to Hurn Forest………..has a very long gravel track probably about 4 miles long………..follow the track most of the time but then him indoors decides that we are going off road for a bit………….with me so far?  So we follow what appears to be a normal path over to where the boundary fence is and start going along the path by the fence which is narrowish and if not careful you can ground the pedals…………….managed a few small dips and fell off in one and burst out laughing…………still with me? Anyway we get to this rather narrow and steep hill, with a steep run up the other side……so him indoors says to go down it free wheeling…………umm are you serious??????????? Well yes he was………..very serious indeed………..so I attempted it……………and promptly fell off in a big heap and hurt my knee again………..still hurts now…………but he made me get up and do it again which I did and ground to a halt half way down……………..did it the third time but got stuck half way up the other side………….and gave up then……………..

Still I have to laugh cos we went back out there again today and he did exactly the same thing dead opposite where I came off…………………….I have no sympathy at all as he had none for me…………..

We also bought Ryan a BMX bike and took him down to Whitecliff to try it out today. He loved it. I also had fun going over the bike track at Whitecliff Rec. Different and I felt like a big kid again…………….

More random mutterings soon……………….

Being positive

By redpanda On October 8th, 2009

For so long now having battled with depression and thinking I am making headway with it, something happens and it puts me back a few steps in the road to recovery. For example, yesterday I had what could only be described as a black mood after being alone for just 3 hours. I wanted some time to think and something happens and I just flip. The only things I can remember are having a bath and a bowl of soup afterwards.  It scared me again and made me wonder if I really am getting better. I think I now know what triggered it and that was wanting to sort out the issues with  Ryan’s school for myself and not letting anyone interfere with it. Its something I have not felt in control of as Tim has been dealing with it but we both went to the school this morning and talked to them so hopefully this time it has worked.

I am trying to be positive and put all bad things and the past out of my mind in an effort to get better. I want to make my family proud of me for one thing. I want to prove to them that I can be a better person than I have been as I have let them down badly in the past. I sometimes wonder how they have put up with me and all I have put them through. So positive thoughts………….well, making decisions for myself that are for the good of the family is a starting point. No more rash decisions that are not always right. Putting other family members first instead of me all the time and to stop  being selfish to the point that they don’t like what I became.  Putting the past firmly away in a box where it can never be brought out again. Bringing happiness back into the house instead of all the hurt and pain there has been.

The hardest thing has been learning to like myself again which is something that I don’t feel that I do at the moment………..I end up crying when I hate myself but then I look at my family and think I am so lucky to have them. I think the most important thing is to come through this with the love and support of my family and then I can be the person I was before.  At least I hope I can.

So here is to a positive life with no (or very few) negatives in it and a future where we can all be happy……………

More random waffling at the weekend.

And so it goes on…………

The cooker saga for one thing and my flaming knee injury being another……

The replacement for the new cooker arrived today. They connected it up and…………..part of the touch control panel did not work which meant the ovens and timer did not work………..they took the old one out…………and to leave us with a cooker they have connected the one that had the damaged trim on it up and we are now using that one til the thrid replacement comes along…………..hope this one works………

My knee started playing up again after cycling on Saturday but at least I did not fall off this time……think I pulled something in it a bit as it really hurt for a good few hours afterwards……..I have to admit that I enjoy cycling………the wind in your hair and moving across the ground on something that is not your feet is quite enlightening……………just need to get Ryan a bike then he can come out too………..as the knee still hurt Sunday Ryan and I went for a walk whilst Tim cycled around Hurn Forest…………….and we started to collect some fir cones to make Christmas decorations with……….found some nice ones that looked quite red inside from where they had opened………….

Been experimenting with the cooking again………..did a nice salmon with dill and spring onion mash for tea the other night which was nice………..these Slimming World recipes are coming up quite good………..I lost another pound this week which I am happy about………..I need to really concentrate as I want another half stone off before Christmas if I can……….I know I can do it…………….its all mind over matter…….

Tonight also saw the first leg of the Elite League finals with Swindon and Wolverhampton chasing other for Speedways Elite prize……….at least my team missed the relegation play off’s………..I want Swindon to win the league title though…………I have a lot of time for their team manager Alun Rossiter as he used to be a rider himself…………..

No kiting or photography chat at the moment………….but will try and take some pictures and go flying soon…………..
