Moving swiftly on

By redpanda On March 28th, 2011

I started a new job last week…….as an accounts assistant in a small firm that supplies the catering industry with fruit, veg and other stuff like dairy and dry goods……….I am quite enjoying it as a lot of it is learning new skills………I started taking and making phone calls today as it was a bit manic at times and I am starting to understand what some of the jargon used is………..its nice working part time in this weather too……..means you get some of the best of the sunshine……..

Still plugging away at the diet………..I have started making my own cakes and sweet things so that I know exactly what goes into them……….I cook more or less everything from scratch as it is so baking is just coming back into the kitchen……..I like cooking Sundays…………making all sorts of things while dinner is cooking………like soups for lunch and the like……….I get a great sense of satisfaction from making something that I know people will like……..

Speedway season has now started……..the first one on TV is tonight and I have no idea who is racing…………looking forward to the GP series though………..

Going to a bead fair on Saturday……….I have recently got back into an old hobby of mine for a change………I find it relaxing and fun to create different designs and colour schemes for ear rings, bracelets and necklaces………..some may look strange but the colours work well together and are not what you would expect to work in that way………hoping to see some good bargains there as the tickets were free anyway………its near London so not that far to go really……….

More in a few days…………

The week so far

By redpanda On March 17th, 2010

Still in a substantial amount of pain from the fall on Saturday………….but at least the swelling on the knee has gone down………..the biggest problem that I have now is that I have trouble going up and down stairs and hills………….don’t think  I’ll be cycling at the weekend unless the pain goes away completely…………..which I doubt that it will…………..

Had three interviews so far this week…………….two for proper jobs and one with an agency who did not seem to want to know me a year ago but seem to think they can’t do enough for me now……………I hope that can get me something if neither of these comes off……………the two were for a receptionist and a sales/administrator…………….I just hope someone takes me on soon so I can get back into a routine…….I hate lack of routine……………..I sort of have a system as I am off work which sometimes works and sometimes does not……………

Of course if I cannot cycle I cannot fly either…………….I want to go fly…………..might be going down to Westward Ho! for the day next month or at least I hope we are…………..my favorite kite forum are having a weekend event down there…………..its one of my favorite places in the whole country………………nice beach……….lovely small town and nice people………….I need a weekend down there as not been there since last April and it is supposed to be good for cycling down there too………………..saying that we are going to Gisburn on the Lancashire/Yorkshire border in May for a mountain biking weekend………………camping in a motorhome and leaving the kids with my parents……………

Not much else to report at the moment……………….

Music, the diet and other odds and ends

By redpanda On January 28th, 2010

For some reason I have not really talked about my love of music……….it all stems back to the 70′s when I started listening to people like Donny Osmond and David Cassidy and it went on from there to bands like The Bay City Rollers and Mud though these days I prefer Rock music……….bands like The Foo Fighters and Kings Of Leon along with people like Paloma Faith and Paolo Nutini……….I even have some Jazz and Classical in there too…………really though I will listen to anything except Country……………I cannot stand it……….my current favorite is believe it or not Take That though I do like Snow Patrol and The Ting Tings as well………….currently downloading loads of music…………….the only trouble is everyone moans when I sing along as they reckon I can’t sing………….I can but not as well as I used to…………it comes from too many throat infections and bouts of laryngitis as a teenager……………….now the family say I sound like the cat has been strangled…………

Lost 3 pound in weight this week………..very pleased with that…….especially considering the amount of Toffee Pecan cookies I had at the weekend…………….though for the most part this last week or so the eating has been fairly sensible…………and cycling helps…………going out again at the weekend…………Moors Valley again I think as there is all sorts over there to look at and lots of paths we did not try last weekend with Ryan……….I just want to keep losing as I want to be a size 16 for my cousins wedding in June………….

Now that is going to be a very busy weekend as it is my birthday in the Friday, Matthew and Charlene get married on the Saturday and my Mum’s birthday on the Sunday…………..Party on I say……………never had so much going on on the same weekend ever in my life…………..

Apart from that still busy at work though it has been quieter this week…………started late but finished early as had some flex time due……….short day when you start at ten was wonderful………..even did the school run this morning for the first time in ages………….fresh air in the mornings is good…………..even if its only for ten minutes…………it worked wonders for my headache……………still waiting to hear when I have to go for my scan………….sooner they eliminate the potential serious causes the better………………..

Off to see what else is being downloaded and amend the menu plan………..

New Year and a New Me

By redpanda On January 3rd, 2010

Yep that is the plan for this year………………..I need to change certain things in my life and for the better so that is my goal…………..

By the end of the year I would like to be……….

At least another 3 stone lighter

Be on a lower dose of anti depressants

Be more calm and rational about things

and do exactly what I say I am going to do and then do it instead of delaying it

I have had a few tough times trying to come to terms with things……….some of which I prefer to forget ever happened, some of which I am glad happened even though it should have been done differently and some of which should have happened but for whatever reason did not…………..well not in the way they were planned anyway………….

My dreams for this year are to be fit and well for as much time as possible………….to get out on the bike more……….to get more other exercise…………to still be happily married to my wonderful husband………..and for the kids to be happy in what they are doing……………

Today has been good……..a nice long walk and now puddle paddling for a change but there was a lot of ice around…………..I just hope that if we get snow I can get to work……………Can’t ride the bike as my knee is playing up and driving me and I still have this headache which will not go away…………….may be I need to get it checked……………

I need to stop eating crap as well…………just as well nearly all the Christmas goodies are gone………..the sweet stuff has been my downfall this year………..Stollen, mince pies, chocolate…………..the serious diet starts again now………….I have Tim’s birthday on Saturday coming and want to do a nice low fat meal for him……….a really diet friendly one…………..so I’m off to look at recipes for the day…………….could be fun trying to find something that we both like…………

I have been watching what is going on for the Speedway season too………..looks like Poole’s team is almost complete…..what with signing Darcy Ward and bringing Davey Watt back in to go with Chris Holder things are shaping up nicely……………..I hope to get down there a few times this year and would not mind doing some photo’s……………as the collection needs a bit of variation in it now…………..

Oh well back to the meal planning……………….

Christmas…………loved it……….

By redpanda On December 28th, 2009

As I said before this year I was really enthusiastic about Christmas……………and I was not disappointed……..

There was the usual chaos in the run up hampered by the bad weather which of course did not turn to snow……………was fun and I was very well organised for a change…………all the presents wrapped by 9 on Christmas Eve………..everything delivered and collected Christmas Eve…………big food shop done on the Wednesday…………along with some hand delivery cards……………and the great waterproof sock hunt…………………

The day its self was amazing…………….a nice leisurely start to the morning with the kids opening their ‘Santa’ stuff………a beautiful watch and bracelet from him indoors along with some of my favorite music………..Tim did well as did the kids…………..they had loads of stuff and the lounge still looks like a bomb has gone off in it…………Dinner was good though a little late due to the roast potatoes taking longer than planned……………..all very diet friendly…………….and then to my Mum’s for Boxing Day tea…………again all very diet friendly and loads of it…………

Been out for a Bike Ride on Boxing Day too and fell off again…………..and got wet feet……….but it was a route we had not done before and will do again when it has dried out properly………………total ridden 15.1 miles……………also did a 5 mile walk this morning from Burley down the old railway line to Holmsley and stopped at the Old Station House Tea Rooms for Tea and Dorset Apple cake………………

Have been very good with food and not gone too mad with the snacky stuff…………..I prefer savoury to sweet snacks any way……………Pretzels and Twiglets rock and are not bad calorie wise…………..off to be weighed again tonight………

More random mutterings soon…………..

Its called Christmas you know

By redpanda On December 15th, 2009

Ok so for the last two years I have been very Bah Humbug about it but this year I feel so positive and good about Christmas that I want the whole world to know……………..

I have presents done…………non perishable food bought………..Turkey is in my Mum’s freezer…………so all in all I should be in a position on Christmas Eve to only by the fresh stuff we need………….and to top it all I have the most time off over Christmas this year that I think I have ever had in all my years of working…………….I finish on 22/12 and go back for just one day between then and 04/01……………I am so looking forward to it……………

What I love about Christmas is the sights and the smells………….now they have got rid of that awful cone in Poole town centre and got a real tree I think that Christmas is really almost here………….I love cooking the dinner……….seeing the kids open their presents………..watching TV as a family and there are loads of other things I love as well…………in fact the only thing I hate is wrapping presents because I am not very good at it…………..

On the subject of presents we did our Secret Santa at work today……………..I got a cook book that was written by the spy author Len Deighton……………….who used to be a food writer for the Observer a while back…………..whoever got it knows that although I am on a diet I am very much a foodie……………

Been out cycling at the weekend…………only once though cos the other time Tim let me have a lie in……….only to be disturbed by Ryan telling me where he had gone and Kristie telling me the same but also that she was going to work…………………grrrrr I love lie ins but hate being disturbed………..I managed to surface at about 9.45 about 5 minutes before Tim got back………….

Not a lot else to tell right now………….more soon……………..with Christmas musings…………..

Just don’t mention Tree Roots

By redpanda On October 24th, 2009

Ok…………after a rather wet morning spent going to the bank and doing some shopping, it dried up enough this afternoon to go out on the bike again…………back up to Hurn Forest and on some of the back tracks again……….now on some of the tracks we have found there are lots of tree roots………………and those of you who read this on a regular basis (and my facebook page) will know that I have a bit of a habit of falling off………….usually in a spectacular style. Well today was no different but this time I caught the edge of a tree root on a slippery path and went flying off the side into a pile of wet leaves…………cue a slightly dented pride and a lot of pain in a rather awkward place not to mention looking muddy and soggy…………..luckily its been quite warm so I dried out quickly………….but I still hurt………..last weeks bruises are now fading………..hope that I don’t get too many more as I am off this week and hoping to get out a bit either cycling or flying…………….

On holiday this week which should be good…………planning loads of  lie ins and going out and about as well as trying to organise a hair cut and an eye test which I get free through work………not sure if I get a concession on the glasses at all as I have a pre-existing condition………..for those who do not know me that well I can only see out of one eye…………I have always had the condition and do not see it as a disability…………I cannot wear contact lenses so have to wear glasses…………….my hair is also way too long right now and I am fed up with having to put it up all the time…

My daughter turned 19 on Friday………….scary thought that you know………….seems like only yesterday we brought her home sometimes…………..what is even more scary is that Ryan is 10 next year……………think I am getting old………………

More waffle in the week…………

And so it goes on…………

By redpanda On October 5th, 2009

The cooker saga for one thing and my flaming knee injury being another……

The replacement for the new cooker arrived today. They connected it up and…………..part of the touch control panel did not work which meant the ovens and timer did not work………..they took the old one out…………and to leave us with a cooker they have connected the one that had the damaged trim on it up and we are now using that one til the thrid replacement comes along…………..hope this one works………

My knee started playing up again after cycling on Saturday but at least I did not fall off this time……think I pulled something in it a bit as it really hurt for a good few hours afterwards……..I have to admit that I enjoy cycling………the wind in your hair and moving across the ground on something that is not your feet is quite enlightening……………just need to get Ryan a bike then he can come out too………..as the knee still hurt Sunday Ryan and I went for a walk whilst Tim cycled around Hurn Forest…………….and we started to collect some fir cones to make Christmas decorations with……….found some nice ones that looked quite red inside from where they had opened………….

Been experimenting with the cooking again………..did a nice salmon with dill and spring onion mash for tea the other night which was nice………..these Slimming World recipes are coming up quite good………..I lost another pound this week which I am happy about………..I need to really concentrate as I want another half stone off before Christmas if I can……….I know I can do it…………….its all mind over matter…….

Tonight also saw the first leg of the Elite League finals with Swindon and Wolverhampton chasing other for Speedways Elite prize……….at least my team missed the relegation play off’s………..I want Swindon to win the league title though…………I have a lot of time for their team manager Alun Rossiter as he used to be a rider himself…………..

No kiting or photography chat at the moment………….but will try and take some pictures and go flying soon…………..

Time to catch up

By redpanda On September 29th, 2009

Well as its been a few weeks since I wrote something I figured it was time to catch up.

The new job is going well and I have made some nice friends there. We are all now settling in to our teams nicely but I think we miss each others company as we were always on the same breaks, but now we sort of run into each other now and again (except for me and Luke who are on the same team and sit next to each other.) I love the hours too. Mostly 8.30 til 4.30 with a later start finish thrown in.

Not been flying for a while so it may come down to going to Westward Ho! for a few days when we are off at half term. If not we will have to get organised and get down to Baiter or perhaps even West Wittering.

We also have a new no wind hobby. Cycling. I have not cycled for years but we bought new mountain bikes for those no wind/its in the wrong direction wind days. Picked them up on Saturday and went out and about on them and as usual I managed to fall off. Nothing more than a bruised ego not to mention a few bruised body parts. Still I enjoyed it. A lot more than I actually expected to.  I just need to get a cushioned saddle then I’ll be fine. I ached a bit but that was more from falling off rather than the cycling its self. I want to go out again this weekend sometime and get some more practice in.

The saga of the cooker continues. Not content with not having an oven since about April, we finally got to ordering a new one which was delivered last Wednesday. Except it cannot be used because the beading round the hob is damaged and appears to be manufacturers damage rather than delivery damage. So it is sat in the middle of the kitchen waiting to be collected next Monday and a new one delivered. Oh the joys of dealing with the supplier and the manufacturer. Who is supplying it I have no idea.

I am going to stop waffling for now and will update more regularly.

new site No.3!

By redpanda On September 27th, 2009

If you are looking for the windriders web site you found it! unfortunately we are doing a bit of decorating at the moment and hopefully the site will be completed up by the end of the week.
